Obituary

Mary Monroe, 77, Crystal Falls, Mich., formerly of Niagara, Wis., passed away Monday, June 2, 2008, at Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls. She was born May 9, 1931, in Norway, Mich., daughter of Roy and Grace (Criel) Pohlson. Mary grew up in Norway and graduated from Vulcan High School. She married Norbert Monroe on February 10, 1951. He preceded her in death in 2002. Mary and Norbert traveled to many places while he served in the US Navy. They moved back to the Niagara area in 1966, where Mary worked as a custodian for the Niagara Public Schools for many years, retiring in 1991. Mary was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church and also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary # 136, both of Niagara. She is survived by a son, Keith (Tammy) Monroe, Wrightstown, Wis.; three daughters, Mary "Kay" Herman, Kingsford, Mich., Judy (Bill) Gormand, Lafayette, Calif., Angela (Tim) Aho, Crystal Falls; two brothers, John (Shirley) Pohlson, Norway, Raymond (Nancy) Pohlson, Florida; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Rebecca, Kevin, Matthew, Todd, Billy and Kimberlee, Alex and Amber; five great-grandchildren, Rhyan, Kiera, Malik, Trevor, and Ketan, many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Mary was preceded by a son, Mark Monroe, March 10, 1989, and a son-in-law, Joseph Herman, June 2, 1998. Visitation will be Saturday, June 7, 2008, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Niagara Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Stephen Rhoades will officiate. Burial will be in the Niagara Cemetery.
