Mary A. Famiani, 89 years old; formerly of 515 5th Street Iron Mountain, died on Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Freeman's Convalescent Home in Kingsford.
Mary was born March 22, 1914 in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Secondo and Theresa (Ciochetto) Antinori. Mary married Nick Famiani on June 25, 1938.
Mary graduated from Iron Mountain High School and worked at Hancock Wood Products in Kingsford as a production scheduler for twenty-eight years. Mary retired on October 9, 1981.
From 1987 through 2001, Mary has lived alone independently, even with her limited vision and heart problems she managed day-by-day within her home in a comfortable condition. Being alone Mary enjoyed her time listening to the Suring radio station for sermons and sacred masses. Since 2001 Mary has been a happy and loved resident at the Freeman's Nursing Home of Kingsford. Mary was a proud member of the First United Methodist Church of Iron Mountain
Preceded in death by her first grandson Jeffrey Johnson, July 7, 1981; a brother, Ernest Antinori, March 16, 1986; her husband Nick Famiani, July 25, 1987; daughter-in-law Dahly (Janet) Famiani 1992; and sister Lorraine Granquist.
Mary is survived by two children, a son, Raymond (Carole Garnsey) Famiani of Kingsford and a daughter, Carol (Lionel) Lauzon of Iron Mountain; A sister, Anne (Wheeler) Witte of Grand Rapids; Seven grandchildren Cindy Famiani-Moser of Traverse City, MI; Russell Johnson of Iron Mountain; Nicky Johnson of Holt, MI; Carol Marie Famiani of Chicago, IL; Jimmy Famiani of Ishpeming; Stephanie Lauzon of Iron Mountain and Shawna Lauzon of Iron Mountain. Great-Grandchildren Nicholas, Joey, Nicole, Jeffrey, Amanda, Hannah, Nicky, Sam, Gracie, Janette, Leo, Raeanne, Taylor, Kaden, Johnnie and Teagan. Two sisters-in-law Mrs. Ida (Jim) Hartwell and Mrs. Ceilia (Lloyd) Francheschini of Iron Mountain and many special nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 11, 2003, from 4 - 7p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 7:00p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. William Seitz will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
