Florence- Mary Jane Dunkes, 89, of Florence, Wis., passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the Florence Health Services, Florence, Wis.
She was born May 22, 1933, in Florence, Wis., daughter of the late Herman and Gertrude (Nau) Meyers. Mary was a lifelong resident of Florence. She married Charles "Pete" Davis on December 12, 1953. He preceded her in death. Mary later married Homer Dunkes on November 19, 1986. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2019. Mary worked as a cook at Matt's Tavern in Florence for many years and was known for her Friday Night Fish Frys. She also worked as a housekeeper for Kiel Ridge for over 15 years.
Mary enjoyed trapping, fishing, hunting, gardening, and playing cards. She was known for being a good shot with a gun and could hit a nickel at 100 yards away.
Survivors include her three sons, Steve Davis and Chuck Davis, both of Florence, Wis., and Raymond Davis, Iron Mountain, Mich.; two daughters, Carmen Davis, Florence, Wis., and Lori (Jim Jr.) Parnitzke, Wausaukee, Wis.; one brother, Richard "Dick" (Nora) Meyers, Florence, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Kim (Tom), Josh (Tina), Carrie (Sean), Alan, Marvin (Amy), John, Zibby (Lori), and Steven (Emily); fifteen great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Charles and Homer, Mary was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman, Jim, and Marvin Meyers, and two sisters, Evelyn Meyers and Ethel Gummins.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 20, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Marys Cemetery, Florence, Wis. Pastor Doug Johnson will officiate.
