Obituary

Mary Jo Angera, 59, of Iron Mountain, died on August 15, 2005 at Dickinson Memorial Hospital. Mary Jo was born on October 19, 1945, daughter of the late Joseph and Tulia (Loia) Angera. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1963. She attended Northern Michigan University and then pursued further education and a brief career in the culinary arts. Mary Jo then worked as an agent for Bon Voyage Travel Agency. Later she joined the family business and became part owner of the Loia Distributing Company. After 13 years the business was sold and she began a career in real estate with Wildwood Realty that spanned a period of 19 years. Mary Jo placed utmost importance on her relationships with family and friends. Her greatest joys were time spent with those she loved. Mary Jo also was a music enthusiast playing multiple instruments over the course of her life. Mary Jo's life is epitomized by service to others. She frequently could be found lending a helping hand to those in need and was committed to many local and national civic causes. In particular, she was a founding member, past President and past District Secretary of The Zonta Club. She has been a board member of the Iron Mountain Housing Commission for over 30 years serving as the President for the last 15 years. She was a past President of the Greater Iron Mountain-Kingsford Multiple Listing Service. Mary Jo played a leading role in the organization of the Iron Mountain Centennial serving on the organizing committee. She was a lifetime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was active in the Renew program as well as a long time participant in the Cursillo Movement. Most recently she was instrumental in working to establish the DCH Prescription Assistance Program. Mary Jo is survived by her brother Don (Judy) Angera of Iron Mountain; her nephew Jeff (Laura) Angera of Mt. Pleasant, MI, her niece Carissa (Don) Mahoney of Kenner, LA; great nieces and nephews Isaac, Jacob, Rena and Tulia; her Aunt Ermina Urbany of Iron Mountain, her Aunt Anita (Roy) Hosking of Idaho Falls, ID; cousins James (Nancy) Urbany of Iron Mountain, Susan (Bianca & Maria) Tamburrino of Iron Mountain, Jeff (Diana, Seth, Miranda, Grant) Hosking of Riverton, WY, Craig (Cheryl, Ian, Noel) Hosking of Richland WA. In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship for Bay College West will be established in Mary Jo's name. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, August 18 at 6:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Friends are invited to express condolences to the family after the service at 7:00 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church Hall.
