Obituary

Marvin G. Gehring, 87, of Niagara, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Hyland Nursing Home, Iron Mountain. He was born September 12, 1924, in Winneconne, Wis., son of the late Richard and Joyce (Bennett) Gehring. Marvin graduated from Hortonville High School, Class of 1942. Following graduation, he served in the United States Navy until being honorably discharged in 1946. He married Marjorie Olson on October 12, 1945. She preceded him in death in 1986. He later married a special friend, Norma Cloos. Marvin moved to Appleton where he learned the trade of painting. In 1950, he moved to Niagara and worked for Kimberly Clark Paper Mill for over 30 years, retiring in 1987. Marvin was Manager of the Club House on the mill property for 15 years. Marvin also worked for Stark Vending for several years. He was an active member of the American Legion in Marian, Ill., while he resided there for a short period of time. Marvin enjoyed vacationing with his family and friends. Marvin is survived by one daughter, Mary (Gary) Hansen, Niagara; three sisters, Lorraine Struck, Appleton, Rosalin Dake, Appleton, Benita Jean Norenberg, Lancaster, Calif.; three grandchildren, Lianne (Dan) Phillips, Niagara, Melissa (Ricardo Peguero) Hansen, Green Bay, Ronald (Debbie) Gehring, Australia; five great-grandchildren, Alex, Brianne, and Ashton Gehring, Tony Phillips, and Jon Phillips, and special friend, Norma Gehring. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Lee Gehring in 1965 and two sisters, Althia Meyers and Clarice "Toots" Fobes. The visitation will be Monday, July 30, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Riverside United Methodist Church, Niagara. The memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday at the church. Rev. Jean Larson will officiate. Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery, Niagara. The American Legion Cretton-Tutas Post No. 136 of Niagara will accord military honors at graveside.
