Martha Sofia Fluur, 92, of Negaunee, Mich., passed away Saturday, August 7, 2010, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain, Mich.
Martha was born June 21, 1918, in Richmond Township, Mich., daughter of the late August and Ida (Saliin) Tenhunen. She grew up in Richmond Township, Suomi location, and graduated from Palmer High School, Class of 1934.
She married Arthur W. Fluur on June 18, 1937, in Marquette County, where they lived and raised their family.
Martha was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Ishpeming, Mich., and was a devoted volunteer for many years at the Salvation Army in Ishpeming.
She will be fondly remembered by loved ones for her joyful laugh, handwritten letters, and the hundreds of knit slippers she made, along with her homemade pasties, breads, and pies.
Martha is survived by two sons, Jack (Nancy) Fluur, Franklin, Wis., Gerald (Trina) Fluur, Florence, Wis.; one daughter, Nancy Fluur, Madison, Wis.; one brother, Hugo Tenhunen, Maine; five grandchildren, John Fluur, Debra (Neil) Ullerich, Steven Fluur, Christopher Fluur, Katrina (Michael) Kehoe; five great-grandchildren, Lisa and David Ullerich, and Joshua,Jacob and Krista Fluur; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Fluur; two sons, James and Joseph Fluur; three brothers, Eino, Nels, and Uno Tenhunen; and one sister, Ellen Meany.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 14, 2010, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church. The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, at the church. Pastor Lauri Maki will officiate. Burial will be in Negaunee Cemetery.
