Crystal Falls- Marlon "Duke" R. Messner, 86, of Crystal Falls, Mich., passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain, Mich. He was born August 1, 1935, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Fred and Dorothy (Curran) Messner. Marlon grew up in Kingsford, Mich., and later moved to Green Bay, Wis., where he was a graduate of Green Bay West High School, class of 1953. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1957. Duke married Alice Haseltine on December 21, 1957, in Butler, Wis. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Alice Messner; one son, David Messner, Fond du Lac, Wis.; one daughter, Mary (Dan) Schultz, Menomonee Falls, Wis.; one brother, Fred (Julia) Messner, Arizona; three grandchildren, Sara (Elliott), Michael (Margaret), and David; and by three great-grandchildren, Addison, Natalie, and Madalyn. In addition to his parents, Duke was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna Cabre and Nancy Jezek. In accordance with Duke's wishes, private family services will be held.
