Mark J. Manowski, Sr., 77, of Kingsford, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain, after a short courageous battle with lung cancer, surrounded by his loving wife, Carol, children, and grandchildren.
He was born November 1, 1932, in Milwaukee, Wis., son of the late Albert and Helen (Hildebrand) Manowski. Mark graduated from Messmer High School, Milwaukee. He married Carol M. Bishop on June 25, 1960, in Pembine, Wis. They were married for 49 years.
Mark proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956. He was also on the Airforce baseball team and scheduling aircraft. Mark became well educated in computers during his service in the military and he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He worked for the Woolworths Corporation, Milwaukee, Wis., as Procurement Officer while going to the University of Milwaukee part-time for the IBM Computer system and accounting. After leaving Woolworths, Mark went to be a clerk for the Iron Mountain and Kingsford United States Post Office and retired after twenty years of service.
Mark enjoyed going to his grandchildren's football, soccer, and baseball games. He also liked searching for bargains for their "Antique Shop". Mark always liked "Crackin'" good jokes, going to the casino, and he loved his family deeply.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Manowski, Kingsford; three daughters, Catherine Barker, Kingsford, Christine (Gary) Malone, Quinnesec, Mich., Julie (Clarence) Kubitski, Crystal Falls; two sons, Mark, Jr. (Fiancé Paula), Niagara, Wis., Michael (Dawn) Manowski, Norway, Mich.; 11 grandchildren, Stacy (Brian) Bruno, Nicholas, Daniel and Andrew Barker, Stephanie Malone, Jason and Jacob Wildhagen, April, Tiffany, Amber, and John Manowski; one great-grandchild due in September; four brothers, Albert (Beverley) Manowski, John (Jean) Manowski, Dennis (C.J.) Manowski, Michael Manowski; one sister, Rita (Jerry) Levenhagen; in-laws, Frank Bishop, Jr. (BJ), Sandy (Gary) Chartier; numerous nieces and nephews.
Mark was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Frank, Sr., and Mary Bishop.
Our dad, a loving husband, was known as "Pa" to all friends and family. He will be deeply missed by all. We would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at the VA Medical Center for being so caring and good to our dad.

Visitation will be Monday, April 19, 2010, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church, Kingsford. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Rev. Joseph Gouin will officiate. The Iron Mountain American Legion Post No. 50 will conduct a Veteran's Memorial Service Monday immediately following the Memorial Mass at the church.
