Obituary

Marjorie J. Greene, 82, of Niagara, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at Las Fuentes Assisted Living, Scottsdale, Ariz. She was born November 7, 1929, in Niagara, daughter of the late William and Cecelia (Chaltry) Larson. Marjorie married Donald T. Greene on December 29, 1948, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara. He preceded her in death on September 19, 2006. Marjorie grew up in Niagara and graduated from Niagara High School. After graduating, she worked as a secretary in Menasha, Wis., and later for Goulett's Cold Storage in Iron Mountain, for the Niagara School District as a secretary/aide, and for the Niagara Senior Center as a Director. She was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and St. Anthony's Council of Catholic Women. Marjorie assisted with the Brownies, Girl Scouts, and Cub Scouts while her children were members. Besides spending time with Donald, the love of her life, Marjorie enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening, sewing, knitting, baking, and playing solitaire. Her greatest Joy was spending time with her family and friends. Marjorie, along with her husband Donald, volunteered countless hours at the VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain. She was an active member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary and served as a local representative. She is survived by three daughters, Kathryn (Wagner) Greene, Niagara; Karen (Jeffrey Steiner) Greene, Los Angeles, Calif.; Rebecca (Bruce) O'Brien, San Diego, Calif.; one son, Dr. Gary (Naomi) Greene, Scottsdale, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, Sara (Chris) Londo, Chandra (Samuel) Kidd, Alexander Steiner; Scott, Ben, and Emily Greene; Eric, Bradley, and Samantha O'Brien; and one great-granddaughter, Madeleine Londo. Besides her parents and husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Larson. Visitation will be Saturday, December 3, 2011, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. St. Anthony Council of Catholic Women will offer a prayer of remembrance at the church. Rev. Fr. Matt Settle will officiate. Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery, Niagara. Memorials may be directed to the Donald and Marjorie Greene Niagara High School Scholarship Fund or to Hospice of the Valley-Fund Development, 1510 East Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
