Maria Schiavo, 85, of Crystal Falls, passed away Monday, November 29, 2010, at Bellin Health Family Medical Center in Green Bay, Wis. She was born August 17, 1925, in Vicenza, Italy daughter of the late Luigi and Mariangela (Alba) Carta. After graduating from high school Maria worked as a telephone operator. On April 28, 1958, in Vicenza she married Carmello Schiavo and the couple moved to Crystal Falls. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1994. Maria lived in Crystal Falls for the last 52 years where she was a homemaker and raised her three children. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing bingo, and was a good friend to many. Maria was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. For the last six years Maria was a resident of the Iron County Medical Care Facility. Survivors include two daughters, Pamala (Nathan) Putman, Lake Village, Ark., Marie (Paul) Hegstrom, Crystal Falls; one son, Phillip (Sheryl) Schiavo, Townsend, Mass.; three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Janna, Christopher; one sister, Mirella; several nieces, nephews, great-nephews and great-nieces. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Gino. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2010, at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Jeffrey Kurtz will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls. Pallbearers include, Dennis Fabbri, Ted Reinke, John Schiavo and Gary Schiavo.
