Maria F. Day, 85, of Norway, Mich., passed away Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain.
She was born September 3, 1922, in Birmingham, Alabama, daughter of the late Frank and Victoria (Simeone) Fraschia. She married Charles Day on March 11, 1943, in Battle Creek, Michigan. Maria and Charles lived in Birmingham until 1946, when they moved to Rochester, New York. They lived in Rochester from 1946-1966, and moved to Norway in 1966.
Maria worked for the Norway-Vulcan Area Schools beginning in 1967, first as a paraprofessional, followed by Secretary to the Principal at Norway High School, retiring in 1984. In 1987, Maria returned to Norway-Vulcan Area Schools, as a volunteer for 17 years.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Norway-Vulcan Women's Club, and Dickinson County Community Theater. She also volunteered her time as advisor for the Norway High School yearbook, St. Vincent DePaul, and established the "Charles E. Day Memorial Scholarship" in memory of her late husband.
She is survived by three sons, Michael Day, Woodbine, N.J., Steven (Shari) Day, Port Edwards, Wis., Charles (Cathi) Day, Vicksburg, Mich; five daughters, Maureen (Jack) Betancourt, Fairport, N.Y., Susanne (Jerry) Gedvick, Norway, Victoria (Michael) Tomasoski, Norway, Marisa (Gary) Day, Arcata, Calif., Georganne (George) Ehlert, South Lyon, Mich.; one sister, Josephine Tucci, Arlington, Mass; thirteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Beside her parents, Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; one son, James Gerard Day; and one sister, Ann Greene.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 31, 2008, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, Norway. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 11:00 AM at the church. Fr. Jim Roetzer will officiate. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
