Obituary

Margaret M. Powalka, 88, of Goodman, Wis., passed away Monday, November 3, 2014, in Green Bay. She was born July 15, 1926, in Cavour, Wis., daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Danielczak) Kalata. Margaret grew up in Argonne and graduated from Crandon High School. Of the many places she worked as a young adult, she wished to be remembered as "Rosie the Riveter" for a defense plant in Dearborn, Mich. She married Steve Powalka on, July 1, 1950, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, Armstrong Creek, Wis. They lived and raised their children on the family farm. She was a teacher's aide for the Goodman-Armstrong Creek School District for 27 years and also served as Treasurer for the town of Goodman. In September of 2013, she moved to Green Bay to live with her daughter during her illness, while still maintaining her Goodman home. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, flower and vegetable gardening, cooking, baking and spending time with her brothers and sisters. Her family was most important to her. Margaret is survived by one son, Donald (Sandra) Powalka, Niagara, Wis.; one daughter, Mary Ann (Frank) Densing, Green Bay; five brothers, Theodore (Kathy) Kalata, Argonne, Wis., Eugene (Dawn) Kalata, Argonne, William (Charlene) Kalata, Argonne, James Kalata, Argonne and Robert Kalata, Shawano, Wis.; five sisters, Josephine Grabowski, Argonne, Delores Evans, Crandon, Agnes (Joseph) Gryczkowski, Argonne, Patricia Wakeman, Illinois and Ruth (Raymond) Matulavich, Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Lindsay (Reed), Kate, Denise, Nick (Courtney) and Emily and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Francis Kalata and two sisters, Dorothy Tuttle and Theresa Samz. Visitation will be, Saturday, November 8, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, Armstrong Creek. The Funeral Mass will be held, Saturday, 11:30 a.m. at the church. Msgr. Paul Koszarek will officiate. Burial will be in Armstrong Creek Cemetery, Armstrong Creek. The family has chosen the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain to honor Margaret's Legacy of Life.
