Obituary

Marcia Hill, beloved mother, passed away June 26, 2008. Throughout her life she was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, who reminded us daily both of her love for us and of all the goodness that she brought to the world. She loved God, her church, and her family. She loved life and shared her passion for it with all who came in contact with her. She was a member of the Guardian Angels Catholic Church, where she had served as a greeter, usher, and Eucharistic minister. Marcia was also a member of the Guardian Angels Ladies Guild. She participated in "Who Is My Neighbor," raising funds to support efforts to assist the needy in areas of Appalachia. Marcia was a 32-year member of the Tufts-Rondon Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, and had served as Chairperson for the Auxiliary's Rehabilitation program improving the well-being of veterans, their families, and others in the community. She also received recognition for work with the Auxiliary's Educational Bulletin program. Marcia was a Founders Society member in the Founders Society of the Harbour House, Crystal Falls Museum Society. She also enjoyed participating in several of the community's variety show performances, displaying her many talents on the stage at the Crystal Theatre. She loved to sew, knit and crochet, often sharing her hand-made creations as gifts to her family and friends. She also put these talents to work, restoring a collection of dolls donated by friend and collaborator Richard Krans. Together, they presented the restored dolls to the children at the Bay Cliff Health Camp. The headline in the local news regarding her efforts said it all: "She's a Doll!' She enjoyed collecting and wearing hats of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Marcia also enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards (especially cribbage), board games with her son, antiques and rummage sales, dining out, and visiting with her many friends and family. Ever the gracious hostess, she was an accomplished cook and baker who delighted in entertaining people, whether for a formal meal or an informal get together for coffee and treats. She also took pleasure in traveling, taking trips with her son to Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro Brazil, Orlando, Gainesville and Cocoa Beach, Florida, as well as Chicago, Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, Las Vegas, casino bus tours at every opportunity, and numerous other trips and excursions. Marcia regularly visited her son in lower Michigan, and tried her luck at the casinos in both Detroit and Windsor, Ontario Canada. She especially enjoyed her winter living in Ajo, Arizona, where she traveled throughout the Southwest and Mexico, making friends everywhere she went. She is survived by her son, and numerous nieces and nephews. Marcia was preceded in death by her husband, L.S. Hill; parents, Tarcisio and Augusta (Farnesi) Pereira; brothers, Theo, Mozart, Antonio, and Joaquin; sisters, Modesta, Antonia, Theresa, Maria Linna, and Beatrice; long-time friend, Louis Tuhowski, and "little sis" Jean Ashland. Marcia will be remembered as a pleasant, outgoing person who enjoyed meeting people of all walks of life, and who treated everyone with whom she came in contact warmly and with the upmost in kindness and respect. Above all, she will be remembered as a loving and courageous single mother who under challenging circumstances always provided for her family, and offered to her only son through her deeds, not just her words, a shining example of how to live life, treat others, and achieve happiness and fulfill all his dreams.
