Obituary

Marcella Ann Gittins, 65, of Stager Lake, passed away on December 2, 2010, at Froedtert Hospital, Milwaukee, Wis. She was born on March 14, 1945, to John and Marcella (Zaranka) Hronkin in East Chicago, Ind. Marcella graduated from Alpha High School in 1963, and received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Northern Michigan University in 1968. Later, Marcella earned a Master's degree in Reading from Eastern Michigan University. She married Martin Gittins on December 20, 1967, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Marquette, Mich. Marcella was an elementary education teacher in Norway, Mich., and Fayetteville, N.C. Later in life, she taught reading in the Ypsilanti Adult Education program in Ypsilanti, Mich. Marcella loved reading, knitting, cooking, and hiking. After residing in Ann Arbor, Mich., for 30 years, Marcella and Martin retired to Stager Lake. She was finally able to return to her childhood home. Marcella especially enjoyed the natural beauty of Stager Lake and the company of her neighbors. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Martin Gittins; two children, Matthew (Caroline) Gittins, Wauwatosa, Wis., and Stephanie (Doug) Kennedy, Ann Arbor; and one very special grandchild, Charles Welles Gittins. Marcella's children were the joy of her life. She is also survived by her brother John Hronkin, Norway. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls, Mich. The Funeral Mass will will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Jeffrey Kurtz will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls. The family would like to thank all those who prayed for Marcella during this difficult time. Also, the family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Dickinson County Hospital, Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, and Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee for the wonderful care they gave to Marcella these past two months.
