Lula E. Ketola, 93, Amasa, went to be with our Heavenly Father surrounded by family, Thursday, January 15, 2009, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, Mich.
Lula was born April 13, 1915, in Amasa, Mich. daughter of the late Elias and Tekla (Hanttula) Koivisto. She graduated from Amasa High School in 1932, she was valedictorian of her class. She married Eino Ketola in Amasa in 1936. He preceded her in death June 12, 2001.
She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker for many years before starting a career, of many years at Angeli's Food Center, Iron River, in the meat department. Lula was a very active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Amasa. She enjoyed many hobbies including, baking, cooking, bird watching, flowers, mending, but her greatest enjoyment was the time that she spent with her family and friends.
Lula is survived by five sons, David (Geri) Ketola, Crystal Falls, James (Betty) Ketola, Amasa, Gerald (Elaine) Ketola, Suamico, Wis., Robert (Bonnie) Ketola, Amasa, Philip (Peggy) Ketola, Crystal Falls; two daughters, Susan (Larry) Schiavo, Crystal Falls, Linda Besiak, Amasa; 14 grandchildren, Tim, Tony, Lisa, Greg, Jennifer, Jacob, Michael, Molly, Chris, Desiree, Sommer, Josh, Jordan and Leanna; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Lula was preceded in death four brothers, Victor, Arnie, John and Arthur Koivisto; four sisters, Mae Luoma, Edna Lakso, Olga Nantelle, Irene Syrjala; two grandchildren, Virginia, Tom; and one son-in-law, Barry Besiak.
Pallbearers will be David, James, Gerald, Robert and Philip Ketola, Larry Schiavo and Michael Besiak.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 20, 2009, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Amasa. The funeral service will be Tuesday, 1:00 p.m. at the church. Rev. Kevin Kaiser will officiate. Burial will be at Hematite Township Cemetery, Amasa, in the spring.
