Obituary

Luella T. DuCharme, 78, of Iron Mountain, passed away Monday, July 21, 2008, at her home. She was born December 11, 1929, in Kingsford, Mich., daughter of the late George and Theresa (Bayerl) Kanyuh. Luella grew up in Norway and graduated from Norway High School. She raised her family in Milwaukee. While in Milwaukee, she worked at St. Luke's Hospital as head baker. After retiring from St. Luke Hospital in 1982, Luella moved to Iron Mountain. She was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church, Kingsford. Luella enjoyed reading, baking, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Words can't describe the feeling of sadness and loss that will be felt by so many of us that had Luella Kanyuh Ducharme in our lives. If we could put it into a few words, what her life was all about, it would be a spirit of LIVE to GIVE. She loved to share and give. She always found time to listen to those around her that needed to be uplifted and encouraged. She gave hope when it was needed, or strength to face the world. She was an awesome "listener." Luella and her sisters would share and talk for hours. So many people were blessed by her gifts of being a seamstress, her hands sewing hours of love, such as wedding dresses, confirmation, communion dresses, christening outfits, prom, graduation, men's suits, bean bags, and a personalized quilt for each grandchild. She was filled with creativity! Her children would sit around the kitchen table with Luella, when they were young, making various projects that they would all create and sell. All three of her children are now blessed in their own lives with creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit! She had the gift of being an incredible baker and cake decorator. She made delicious cookies, breads, wedding cakes and more! Luella left us with a recipe book and many hand written recipes of her own. She touched so many people in so many ways… She was a hard worker in the home and workplace. She loved taking rides with her companion, Bob, and her sweet dog, Annie. Born and raised in the U.P., she was proud to call it God's Country! A dedicated Catholic, she made sure to put God first in her life. There was not a day that went by, that she did not have the rosary in her hand with prayers over her family and friends. She fought with Cancer the past five years, but never gave up on the Lord and His great mercy. She died with her rosary in her hand with many family members surrounding her with their love. We will miss her greatly. As we put our Lord, Jesus Christ, first and foremost in our lives, we will again see HIM and Luella in Heaven someday. Thank you Lord God, for this special woman and precious gift! Luella is survived by one son, Thomas (Jodi) DuCharme, Norway, Mich.; two daughters, Cynthia (John) Robinson, Goodyear, Ariz., Wendy (Scott) Ruby, Las Vegas, Nev.; her companion of over 18 years, Bob Zigman, Iron Mountain; three brothers, George Jr. "Sonny" Kanyuh, Norway, Kenneth (Joyce) Kanyuh, Iron Mountain, Robert (Phyllis) Kanyuh, Iron Mountain; three sisters, Bette Pipp, Iron Mountain, Patricia Macha, Chicago, Ill., Thersa (Mike) Martin, Iron Mountain; 13 grandchildren, Kim, Jon, Jill, Chad, Kelly, Christopher, Craig, Allison, Rebecca, Melissa, Jessica, Chloi, Chase; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
