Louise Mattson, 81, known to her friends as "Lucy", passed away Saturday, September 27, 2008, in Crystal Falls. She was born in Podpreska, Slovenia on January 22, 1927, to John and Louise (Janez) Cimprich. In 1935 she moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario where she graduated from Port Arthur Technical and Vocational High School in 1945. She married George Mattson on February 22, 1947, in Port Arthur, now Thunder Bay. The couple moved to the U.S. in 1950, making their home in Crystal Falls. They were married for sixty-one years. Lucy was a stay at home mom for many years, venturing out into the work force in 1968. Lucy worked as an Executive Secretary for Keweenaw Land Association and was later promoted to Office Manager. She was active in church groups: a member and officer of Churchwomen, presided on the board of directors of United Lutheran Church, served on the Stewardship committee, the alter society, and the funeral circle. Lucy was a member of Michigan State Home Extension. She served as a Local Leader, on the County Board, and on the State Board of Directors. Lucy loved her husband, George, her family and her many friends. She had a zest for life and was always ready for adventure whether it was a trip around the globe or a day with "the girls." Her vivacious presence is greatly missed. She is survived by: her loving husband, George; a daughter, Patricia (Gordon), a son, Robert (Dawn); three grandchildren, Tracy (Pete), Kari (Mike) and Eric; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Toni, John, Cassidy and Madeline; a brother, Frank (Violet), a sister-in-law Zita, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by: her parents and brother John. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls. A memorial in Lucy's name is being established with Patricia Marcinak for the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge in Marshfield, Wis. and the United Lutheran Church.
