Iron Mountain:
Louis Pete Povolo, age 86, of Kingsford, Mich., passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2006,
at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain.
He was born April 19, 1919, in Norway, Michigan, the son of the late Sylvester and Catherine (Storti) Povolo. Louis married Gertrude Lamprecht on June 21, 1941, in Iron Mountain. She preceded him in death on October 5, 1999.
Louis joined the United States Army during World War II. He was employed at Clairmont Transfer as a truck driver for over 25 years retiring in 1977. Louis was a member of the American Martyrs Catholic Church and American Legion Post of Kingsford. He enjoyed going to camp, deer hunting, the outdoors, and his afternoon coffee with his friends at Burger King, the Antique Car Club and especially spending time with his family and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his son, Dennis (Kathy) Povolo of Kingsford, Mich., three daughters, Julie (Jack) Pancheri of Iron Mountain, Mich., Kathy (Mike) Tripp of Felch, Mich., and Marsha Gordon of Kingsford, Mich., one brother, Ernest (Nadine) Povolo of Iron Mountain, Mich., two sisters, Angeline Fellin of Milwaukee, Wisc. and Jeanette (Lawrence) Lundin of Norway, Mich.,13 grandchildren, 22 great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and his wife Gertrude, Louis was preceded by one son-in-law, Paul Gordon in 1999, one brother, Reno Povolo and four sisters, Agnes Thomas, Lena Sanetti, Mary Solda and Sylvia Miller.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 23, 2006 from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Norway Township Cemetery.
