Louis Maraccini, 88, of Iron Mountain, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 3, 2011, at Freeman's Nursing Home, Kingsford.
He was born July 2, 1923, in Loretto, son of the late Nels and Lilia (Gori) Maraccini. Louis married LaVerne P. Hoveland on August 17, 1946, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. She preceded him in death on July 6, 1996.
Louis was a man of many talents. He was a carpenter by trade for RG Joiner. Louis helped all three of his sons build their homes. He also built his own home and worked three jobs while raising his family. When Louis was 15, he and his mother went back to Italy to the town of Quiesa in the province of Tuscany for a month where Louis kept a daily diary on the experience.
During retirement, he refinished a lot of antiques for his two daughters. For many years, he made jewelry boxes and sold them to finance his other hobbies. Louis was quite the trapper for fox, bobcat, and beaver. He also enjoyed going to the casino and baking, making sure to have cookies, biscotti, and stuffed pumpkin flowers every time family visited. He was a loving father and grandfather.
Louis is survived by three sons, Michael (Penny) Maraccini, Merriman, Thomas Maraccini, Kingsford, Patrick (Janet) Maraccini, Kingsford; two daughters, Lana (Fred) Mortel, Iron Mountain, Lori (Duane) Santi, Iron Mountain; thirteen grandchildren, Annette (Kraig Walter) Wagner, Jennifer (Russ) Livingston, Fred (Johanna Wicklund) Mortel, Daniel (Tiffany) Maraccini, Alyssa Maraccini, Jessa Maraccini, Rayce Maraccini, Angeline Pritchard, Gina (Shawn) Brooks, Maria (Josh) Cory, Mario Louis Maraccini, Marla Maraccini, Marcus Maraccini; ten great-grandchildren, Kelsey Wagner , Chase Livingston, Devin Livingston, Cameron Livingston, Michala Maraccini, Ryan Maraccini, Sofia Pritchard, Domenic Pritchard, Olivia Brooks, Evelyn Brooks; one brother, Geno (Doris) Maraccini, Iron Mountain; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Krueger, Iron Mountain, Jerry Lemke, Racine, Wis.; and one sister-in-law, Betty (Frank) Peterson, Niagara.
Along with his parents and wife, Louis was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Maraccini on September 6, 1989; and one sister, Ena Krueger.
Louie spent three and a half years living at Evergreen Memory Care Unit where he had excellent care given to him by the staff.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 5, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
Pallbearers will include Fred Mortel, Rayce Maraccini, Dan Maraccini, Mario Maraccini, Marcus Maraccini, and Devin Livingston.
