Obituary

Lorraine Steber, 100, of Florence passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain. She was born July 30, 1921, in Wabeno Wi, to William and Delina (Brusso) Lacoque, the fourth of twelve children. Lorraine attended school until the 8th grade and then stayed home to help raise her siblings and run the household. Throughout her life she took great pride in keeping house and taking care of children. While at a dance with her sister, Lorraine met the love of her life, Ray Steber, and they were married on November 24th, 1938. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in 2013. Lorraine scrimped and saved every penny she could so that she and Ray could purchase property in Florence to start a potato farm with their sons. She worked long hours alongside them to make their farm a success all the while maintaining a wonderful home where everyone was welcome. She loved to bake, make potato dumplings and pizzelles. She could mend anything and was always 'fixing' something until her final days. Lorraine loved to dance, especially with Ray. Lorraine was a member of the St. Mary's Altar Society and a longtime volunteer for St. Vincent De Paul in Florence, reluctantly stepping down when she was 98. Family was everything to Lorraine, and she loved getting together with everyone for family reunions, birthdays, weddings, and holidays. She was very happy to live to age 100 and enjoyed being celebrated by her family for her big day. Lorraine was survived by her loving son, Gary (Cindy) Steber, Florence; 8 grandchildren, Wanda (Tom) Pontbriand, Rob (Karen) Steber, Gail (Dan) Donaldson, Randi (Andrew) Smith, Terry (Fiancée' Jennifer Witynski) Steber, Laura (Tomas) Hemgren, Chris (Jen) Steber and Daniel (Melony) Steber; 19 great-grandchildren, Amanda Aylesworth, Tyler (Amber) Pontbriand, Logan (Katie) Pontbriand, Nathan Steber, Jeremy Donaldson, Alan (Stephanie) Donaldson, Jordan and Jacob Smith, Whitney and Randall Gregg, Hanna Zanon, Richard Steber, Sidnie (Jake) Klimpel, Madelaine, Alexander and Samuel Hemgren, Bradly Steber and Carter and Wes Steber; 12 great-great-grandchildren, Lorelai, Alaina and Dani Aylesworth, Dawson Pontbriand, Devin and Rosalie Bieber, Caleb and Brody Donaldson, Elliot and Emmet Donaldson, Brantley Gregg and Grayson Bergeron; 4 sisters, Doris Ann Koss, Annabel Carchedi, Cleoria Raith and Sandra Lenzer; and 2 sisters-in-law, Caroline Beck and Betty Steber. In addition to her parents, Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Ray; son Richard; daughter-in-law Susan, and one great-grandson, Mason and 7 siblings.
