Crystal Falls: Lodovica 'Mae' Torreano, age 97, of Crystal Falls, died Thursday April 21, 2005 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls.
She was born February 9, 1908 in Calumet, daughter of the late John and Marianna (Merlo) Navone. On August 29, 1935 she married John Torreano. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1983.
Mae attended Calumet schools and worked for Edward Cudahy, owner of the Calumet Theatre. During the war she worked for the Red Cross. She settled in Crystal Falls in 1943 to be a homemaker and raise her family. She was an active member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, the Church Guild, Daughters of Isabella, a volunteer with the Senior Center, Manor, Harbor House and Hospitals and was a Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking and raspberries.
One of her greatest loves was playing the piano. She was noted for this and loved to entertain by playing and singing. Mae would hear a song and then play it. She entertained friends at card parties had a love for life and wanted everyone around her to have fun.
Survivors include one son, Martin (Betty) Torreano, Gwinn; grandchildren, Tiffany (Andy) Blondeau, Green Bay, Wisc., Angela Torreano, LasVegas, Nev., Eric Torreano, Howell; one great grandchild, Natalie Blondeau and one more soon to be born in October. She is further survived by a sister-in-law, Dominica Carlyon and six nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John Torreano, one son Joseph Torreano, a brother Dominick Navone and sister-in-law Ellen Navone.
The Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 29, 2005 at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Fr. Dino Silvestrini will officiate. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery, Negaunee. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. Friday until the hour of services at the church.
Honory Pallbearers will be Angelo Diqui, Chad Diqui, Walter Hagglund, Max Woelffer, Harry Peterson and Joseph Santini.
The family requests any memorials in lieu of flowers be given to Guardian Angels Catholic Church or the Iron County Medical Care Facility.
