LeRoy Nylund, 83, of Crystal Falls, passed away Monday, January 14, 2013, at Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center, Iron Mountain. He was born July 25, 1929, in Crystal Falls, son of the late Arthur and Vienna (Maja) Nylund. LeRoy grew up in Crystal Falls and graduated from Crystal Falls High School, Class of 1947. He married Lorraine Pivatto. She preceded him in death on February 6, 2011. LeRoy served in the United States Army and was present at the Japanese War Crimes Trials in Japan. He purchased Republic I.G.A. in 1965 and operated the store until 1985 when he sold it. He always wanted to be a Log Hauler, we never knew why, and worked at that for three years retiring in 1988. He was a member of the American Legion Louis Bowman Post No. 87, Crystal Falls and the East Side Veterans Council. LeRoy enjoyed golfing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by three sons, Kim (Tina) Nylund, Lee (Sally) Nylund, Bob (Jackie) Nylund, all of Crystal Falls; one brother-in-law, Robert (Darlene) Pivatto, Crystal Falls; two sisters-in-law, Toni Ann (Allan) Trewnick, Patricia (William) Mackie, both of Crystal Falls; nine grandchildren, Jeremy (Julie) Nylund, Jamie (Brian) Carollo, Jessica (Dan) Surface, Trisha (Ali) Easley, Lacey (Thomas) Nye, Jeffrey Nylund, Dan (Holly) Nylund,Rod Nylund, Samantha Nylund; seven great-grandchildren, Ella Nylund, Kelsey Nylund, Emmi Carollo, Jaxson Carollo, Eily Carollo,Thomas Nye, and Levi Nye. In addition to his parents and wife, LeRoy was preceded in death by one son, Rod Nylund; one grandson, Ricky Nylund, and a brother Robert Nylund. The visitation will be held, Friday, January 18, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. The memorial service will be held, 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Rev. Jeffrey Kurtz will officiate. The East Side Veterans Council will conduct a Pass-In-Review ceremony 10:45 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.
