Leonard J. Gendron, 78, of Quinnesec, Mich. passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Iron Mountain.
He was born on April 6, 1930, in Norway, Mich. son of the late Frank and Mary (Bacca) Gendron. Leonard attended Norway schools and later served in the US Army. He married his soul mate, the former Lois Hughes of Quinnesec, on February 14, 1953, in Loretto. They most recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
In his younger years, he worked for the railroad and as a logger. Leonard "Catskinner" owned and operated Gendron Construction Company for many years with his sons. He operated a variety of heavy equipment, including excavators, bull dozers, and trucks and was known for his Cat hats and great sense of humor. Leonard enjoyed working hard for his family even though he was stricken with Rheumatoid Arthritis early in life. He loved boating, hunting, riding horses, and motorcycles, but most of all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Lois; two sons, John Gendron, Quinnesec; Randy (Natalie) Gendron, Vulcan; two daughters, Lynn (William) Chaplinski, Crivitz, Wis.; Theresa Gendron, Quinnesec; 13 grandchildren, Jason, Amanda, Aidan, Adam Barglind, John (Erin), Audra, Alaina Gendron, Jessila Johnson, Logan Gendron-Granquist, Mandy Bianco, Randy, Matt and Cora Gendron; six great-grandchildren, Cassie, Addisen and William Barglind, Peyton and Cael Gendron, and Carsyn Moore; one brother, Ernest (Helen) Gendron, St. Charles, Mich.; one sister, Sharon (Don) Pedo, Otsego, Mich.; many nieces, nephews and numerous cousins.
Besides his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur "Sonny" and his wife, Mary Jane Gendron, Frank, Jr."Buddy" Gendron; two sisters, Mercedes "Sis" and her husband, Oscar Mathieu, Marie "Chum" and her husband, Clifford Gustafson.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 5, 2008, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. The memorial service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Breitung Township Cemetery.
