Leonard J. "Swede" Anderson, 82, of Iron Mountain, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at Hyland Nursing Home, Iron Mountain.
He was born September 18, 1925, in Iron Mountain, son of the late John and Agnes (Rodberg) Anderson. Leonard grew up in Breitung Township and attended school in Kingsford, Mich. He married the former Madelyne Ballario on April 29, 1950, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Iron Mountain. She preceded him in death on December 6, 1993.
Leonard served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946, as a Medical Technician. He received the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and two overseas service bars while in the service.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 50, and also a member of the Upper Peninsula Plumbers and Pipefitters Local No. 506, retiring in 1986. Leonard's favorite pastime was trout fishing on the K.C. Creek and bird hunting with his brother, Howard.
Leonard is survived by, one brother, Howard Anderson, Aurora; special niece, Phyllis Uhrich; special friend and loving granddaughter, Ashley Boyer; cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Madelyne, and his parents.
Private family visitation will be held. Burial will be in Aurora Cemetery, Aurora, Wis.
