Lawrence W. Ziegler, age 84, of Crystal Falls and formerly of Ann Arbor, died unexpectedly Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at the Iron County Community Hospital, Iron River.
He was born June 23, 1921, in Dearborn, youngest son of the late Joseph and Frances (Demick) Ziegler. On June 21, 1952, he married Alice Brinkman in Ann Arbor. She preceded him in death in 1999.
Lawrence spent his youth on a farm in Webster Township and graduated from Dexter High School in 1939. For several years he delivered heating oil and gasoline in the Ann Arbor area. In 1960 he began work at the U. S. Postal Service and retired in 1983. Lawrence was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Knights of Columbus, National Association of Letter Carriers, 4-H Service Club, Cobblestone Country Dancers, and the Washtenaw County Historical Society.
Survivors include two sons, William B. (Joyce) Ziegler of Crystal Falls, Richard A. Ziegler, Ann Arbor; three grandchildren, Erich, Anne and Christina Ziegler, all of Crystal Falls; one sister-in-law, Antoinette Ziegler, Dearborn; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo Ziegler, Cocoa, Fla., Edward Ziegler, Dearborn, and two sisters, Josephine Otto, Dexter and Marie Konkel, Dearborn.
Memorial services are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Ann Arbor. Burial will be in Leland Cemetery, Northfield Township. Mich.
