Obituary

Lawrence Rosa, 89, of Crystal Falls, died Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at his home. He was born July 28, 1917, in Crystal Falls, son of the late John and Victoria (Wolak) Rosa. On August 6, 1955 he married Helen Vross in Florence, Wis. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2005. He worked in the CCC camps as a young man and in November 1945 entered the U.S. Army. Lawrence was in Company L of the 135th Infantry, was captured in Italy, and was a POW for 18 months in Germany. After service he returned to Crystal Falls and then went on to lower Michigan and worked factories and doing high tower construction. After his marriage to Helen the couple remained in Crystal Falls and Lawrence worked in area mines until his retirement in 1981. He was a Life Member of the Tufts-Rondon VFW Post No. 2891, Crystal Falls. He also was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Lawrence was a gentle, loving, husband and father. He was a very happy, witty man and enjoyed his flower and vegetable gardens as well as tending to his fruit trees. Survivors include his wife Helen Rosa, Crystal Falls; two sons, Michael Rosa, Minneapolis, Minn., John Rosa, Marquette; one brother, Lewis Rosa, Schofield, Wis., one sister, Helen Broswavic, Crystal Falls, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, Lawrence Rosa, two sisters, Mary Ponozzo, Dorothy Plank, and three brothers, Walter, Zigmund and Alex Rosa. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Rev. Dino Silvestrini will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls, with military rites accorded by the East Side Veterans Council. There will be a veterans Pass In Review ceremony, 10:45 a.m., Saturday at the church.
