Larry R. Lundell, 72, of Iron Mountain, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at his home.
He was born November 22, 1938, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Les and Myrtle (Otterson) Lundell. Larry graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1957. After graduation, Larry attended Northern Michigan University where he earned his Bachelor Degree in Education and later his Masters Degree. He later went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Superior where he received a Specialists Degree in Administration.
Larry started his teaching career in Fifield, Wis. He later taught in Coleman, Wis., Garden, Mich.,where he served as school superintendent, Florence, Wis., where he served as principal, Door County, Wis., as principal, and finally back to Coleman where he retired after 34 years in education.
He moved back to Iron Mountain in 1998, where he never missed an Iron Mountain High School sporting event unless he was sick. Larry enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Abundant Life Church, Kingsford.
Larry is survived by his two daughters, Lori (Dean) Vernon, Grand Rapids, Mich., Wendy (Bill) Wilson, Minneapolis, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Amanda (David) Shaheen, Deanna, Adam, Kenny, Simon, Veronica and Leah Vernon; one great-grandchild, Jamal Shaheen, and many nieces and nephews. Larry is also survived by his second wife, Rose Marie Lundell of 22 years, and her four adult children, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Bartolameolli of 28 years; and one brother, David Lundell.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 2, 2011, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Abundant Life Church in the Birchwood Mall, Kingsford. The memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m., Sunday at the church. Rev. David Longstaff will officiate.
