Kenneth E. Stromberg, 84, of Iron River, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain.
He was born June 28, 1928, in Iron River, son of the late Carl and Carrie (Nelson) Stromberg. He attended Iron River schools. Kenneth was a United States Army Veteran and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with bronze star.
He was employed as a truck driver in the construction industry for many years. Kenneth married the former Laverne Ballerstaedt on September 6, 1983, in Crystal Falls. The couple made their home in Iron River. They celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in 2008. Laverne preceded him in death on December 8, 2009.
Kenneth was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River and the Truck Drivers Union. He was known for his good sense of humor and enjoyed woodworking and working on cars.
Kenneth is survived by three sons, Roger Skoglund, Florida, Ronald Skoglund, Romulus, Robert (Tammy) Skoglund, Caspian; five daughters, Debra (Roger) Bloom, Cheryl (Chuck) Taylor, Linda (Damon) Nasser, all of Iron River, Susan Bergstrom, Lake Villa, Ill., Karen (Tony) Segreti, Vernon Hills, Ill.; one sister, Doris Koski, Iron River; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Laverne, Kenneth was preceded in death by one daughter, Laurel Cooper; one granddaughter, Marie (Panick) Parent; three brothers, Doug, Don, and Harold Stromberg; and a sister, Jeanette Whitcomb.
The visitation will be Friday, May 10, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Iron River. The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Bonny Kinnunen will officiate. Burial will be in Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at graveside.
