Kenneth Henry Smith, 77, of Fence, Wis., passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Hoffmann Paradise, Armstrong Creek, Wis.
He was born December 16, 1931, in Tipler, Wis., son of the late Herman and Ellen Smith. Ken attended school in Florence, Wis. He served in the United States Army for two years, serving overseas as a crane operator. Ken married the former Anna Celichowski on November 10, 1951. She preceded him in death. Ken later married his soul mate, the former Martha Lou Nichols on October 28, 1978. She preceded him in death on March 11, 2008.
Ken worked for a short time for Massey Harris, and Bucyrus-Erie, and worked at Ladish, Cudahy, Wis., for most of his life. He later moved back to Fence where he kept busy in retirement as a residential builder/wood craftsman. Ken was a member of the Fence Volunteer Fire Department and the American Legion Post No. 325, of Goodman. He enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, and the domino game, "Chicken Feet."
He is survived by one son, David (Candace) Smith, Aurora, Colo.; one daughter, Virginia Smith, Milwaukee, Wis.; seven step-children, Virginia (Gene) Keen, Wausau, Wis., Donald (Bonnie) Nichols, Merrill, Wis., Wayne (Dorothy) Nichols, Florence, Edward (Rose) Nichols, Peshtigo, Wis., Phillip Nichols, Fence, Glen Nichols, Spread Eagle, Michael (Carol) Nichols, Cudahy; two sisters, Norma Gallion, Crandon, Wis., Arletta (Clifford) Desotell, Franksville, Wis.; three grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, Rosanne; four great-grandchildren, Zoey, Logan, Emily, Aiden; many step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Ken was preceded in death by, one son, Daniel Smith; two brothers, Robert Smith, Gene Smith; two sisters, Alma Statezny and Sandy Amicangelo.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 25, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence. Additional visitation will be Friday, June 26, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Fence Bible Church, Fence. The funeral service will be Friday, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Timothy Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Fence. American Legion Post No. 325, of Goodman will accord graveside military honors.
