Obituary

Kenneth E. Gunderson, 94, of Armstrong Creek, passed away Wednesday, July 01, 2015, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain. He was born November 28, 1920, in Gilmanton, Wis., son of the late Henry and Esther (Droegkamp) Gunderson. Ken grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from Washington High School, Class of 1939. In 1942, during WWII, he joined the United States Navy and got his Wings in 1943. After Flight Training, he joined the United States Marines and was honorably discharged in 1946. Ken married Verna Hagen on September 13, 1943, in Santa Barbara, Calif. He worked as a Police Officer for the Los Angeles Police Department from 1946 until 1966, and then for Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, Calif. from 1967 until his retirement in 1985. Ken moved to Armstrong Creek in 1999. He was a member of the American Legion VFW in Los Angeles. Ken was a good basketball player in his younger years and played on the Los Angeles Police Department Basketball Team; he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Ken is survived by one daughter, Sandra Linde, Ariz.; one niece, Patti Schlass and family. In addition to his parents and wife, Verna, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ellen Owens and Dorothy Nowak; one grandson, Jason Hodgkiss and one great grandchild, Niklaus Hodgkiss. In accordance with Ken's wishes private family services were held.
