Obituary

Keith A. Opolka, 49, of Homestead, passed away Monday, October 7, 2013, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain after a long battle with illness. He was born October 30, 1963, in Norway, Mich., son of Mike Opolka and Charlotte (LaMere) Corrao. Keith grew up in Green Bay, Wis. He married Sharon Haevers on May 2, 1987, at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, Green Bay. They moved to Homestead in 1998. Keith enjoyed the quality of life the north woods offered; he enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and spending time with his family. After his health would not allow him to do the things he loved, he passed on his talents and knowledge of all he knew, to his family and friends. Keith's bigger than life smile, heart and presence will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He had a special way with children and making all who would come in contact with him feel special. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Sharon; one son, Chase Opolka, Homestead; one daughter, Lauren (Dino) LaGest, Homestead; his father, Mike (Beverly) Opolka, Norway, Mich.; his mother, Charlotte Corrao, Norway; four brothers, Mike (Melody) Opolka, Ark; Scott (Karen) Opolka, Green Bay, Willard (Joyce) Opolka, Aurora, Wis.; and Lyle Hennricks, Milwaukee, Wis.; five sisters, Kris (Russ) Spranger, Traverse City, Mich., Debbie (Tom) Murray, Norway, Kathy Dupont, Norway, Gina (Bill) Maynard, Norway, and Paula (Randy) Bader, Suamico, Wis.; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Keith was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Fred "Casey" Haevers and his mother-in-law, Oneeda "Sis" (Nault) Haevers. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 15, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Norway. A Celebration of Life Service will be offered Tuesday, 4:00 p.m. at the church.
