Obituary

Florence – Judith 'Judy' Ann Gehlhoff, 74 of Florence, Wis., passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at Maryhill Manor, Niagara, Wis., after a two-year battle with cancer. She was born September 8, 1946, in Crystal Falls, Mich., daughter of the late Ruby A. (Fraker) and Wayne W. Stream. Judy graduated from Florence High School, class of 1964. She married her husband, Philip Gehlhoff, on June 21, 1986, in Bath, Maine, where they enjoyed a Maine honeymoon with close friends Norma and Donny Footer. A wedding reception was held upon their return to Florence at the Von Oepen Farm. Judy worked a variety of jobs through the years. She worked for the Florence Mining News as a bookkeeper, typist, and eventually photographer. She then worked as a bookkeeper for Standard Service and Supply in Iron Mountain, Mich. In 1985, she was elected Florence Town Clerk, and a year later, that job became a full-time Clerk/Treasurer position. She retired in 2009. Judy was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Florence, serving on the Council for a short time prior to her cancer diagnosis. For many years, she volunteered serving food at Keyes Peak Summerfest, where the Gehlhoff family cooked the pig for over 25 years. She personally gathered over $4,500 of donations to purchase the large fort and swing set enjoyed by many in the Town Park. In her younger years, her main hobby was photography. She had a darkroom at her house and many special lenses. She also bought herself a Ski-doo snowmobile and was known to win a race or two on the Pine River in front of the Cherub Lodge. After she married Philip, she enjoyed all types of fishing and hunting locally, in Canada, and on one trip to Alaska. She was frustrated with Philip's "men-only" camp (Choctaw), so she bought her own 40 acres, where Philip built her a camp. Here she enjoyed many a campfire and refreshments with family and friends. She loved spending time with their dog Ginger, doing puzzles, riding her UTV on the trails, adventures with the 4-J's, collecting black bear knick-knacks, and watching the Green Bay Packers. Judy especially enjoyed spending time with Philip's grandchildren, Julianne and Chelsea, in the 1990s and Gina and Alicia in the 2000s. She was a fun Grandma building blanket forts, staying overnight at camp, walking to the Ice Cream Shoppe for "her medicine," swimming at Fisher Lake, fishing, and watching old cartoons. Judy is survived by two brothers; Walter (Denise) Stream of Westminster, Colorado; Richard Stream of Florence, Wis; two sisters-in-law Sandy Witynski (Gehlhoff) of Florence, Wis., and Judy Von Oepen (Gehlhoff) of St. Paul, Minn.; her stepson Jim (Wendy) Gehlhoff and their daughters Gina and Alicia Gehlhoff of Florence; step son-in-law Curt Jensen and his daughter Chelsea of Florence, Wis; her step-granddaughter Julianne Augustyn and her children Gavin, Carter, and Vienna of Appleton, Wis.; nieces and nephews and special friends Joan Churchill, Joan Novak, Sue Hoogland, and Pat Loritz. In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 35 years, Philip; brother Wayne Stream Jr.; stepson John Gehlhoff; stepdaughter Pegge Jensen; and special extended family friend Judy Brezeale. Visitation will be Saturday, February 6, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Jacobs–Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence, Wis. Funeral services will be Saturday, 11:30 a.m., at the funeral home.
