Obituary

Josephine Madeline (Furno) Heisenfeldt passed away on Friday, April 7, 2011, at ManorCare, where she was a resident for two years. She was a gentle, kind and loving soul who always found the goodness in others. She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and they loved her dearly. Her family's favorite vacations were returning "home" and enjoying wonderful homemade ravioli and biscotti. Josephine was born on February 2, 1919, in Iron Mountain, to Mary and Dominic Furno. She attended school in Iron Mountain. In 1938, she met the love of her life, Charles "Charlie" Heisenfeldt at the popular roller rink when she was 19. They eloped on August 3, 1939. A year later, they were married at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara, Wis. She and Charlie lived most of their married life in Niagara. While Charlie held jobs at Kimberly Clark, Kadulski's Market, and Meyer's Dairy, Josie enjoyed raising her children and working part time at the Clubhouse and Kadulski's Market. When Charlie had a stroke, Josie moved to Iron Mountain and visited him every day for five years. Soon after, she moved to assisted living at Evergreen, then to ManorCare. She loved knitting and playing bingo but loved her outings to the Casino for a special time out. Her family always said that if she had a vice, that was her only one! Josie is survived by her three children, James (Jane) of Byron Center, Mich., Kenneth (Arlo) of Niagara, and Marcia (Frank) Cook of Eau Claire, Wis.; six grandchildren Greg (Maggie) Heisenfeldt, Sara (Paul) Zielinski, Marc (Melanie) Heisenfeldt, Jennifer Cook, Brigitte Cook, and Willow Walker; twelve great-grandchildren Matthew, Emmett, and Maeghan Staton, Ava Heisenfeldt, Lily, Emi, and Lucas Zielinski, Jessica and Kirsten Cook, MacKenzie, Alexander, and Dominic Cook; sister and best friend, Gloria (Dale) Larsen; brothers, Louis Furno, Donald (Pat) Furno, and Raymond (Janet) Furno. She is also survived by her special niece Linda (Joe) Tripp, and Maribeth and Mike Furno. She was preceded in death by Charlie in 1995; her parents, Dominic and Mary; her grandson, Army Sgt. Sean Cook, NCOIC Military Police on August 19, 2004; her brother, Claude Furno; and sister-in-law, Anita Furno. The visitation will be Monday, June 13, 2011, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. The memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday at the funeral home. Rev. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain.
