Joseph W. Tabaka, 83, of Iron River, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls.
He was born December 11, 1930, in Alpha, Mich., son of the late Walter and Sophie (Franz) Tabaka. Joe grew up in Alpha and attended school there. He served in the U.S. Army and after being honorably discharged returned to Alpha. Joe married Kay Marinello, she preceded him in death on May 5, 2008. While living in Alpha, Joe worked at many of the area mines for over 30 years. He then moved to Manitowoc, Wis., where he worked in the shipyards until retirement. After retiring, Joe moved to Iron River. Joe enjoyed dancing and all that the outdoors had to offer.
Joe is survived by one son, Paul Tabaka, Racine, Wis.; two daughters, Kathy Sobel, Two Rivers, Wis., Diane Zeitler, Hagerstown, Md.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a very special friend, Eleanor Kovach, Gwinn, Mich.
In addition to his parents and wife Joe was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
In accordance with Joe's wishes private family services were held.
