Crystal Falls: Joseph "Scrap Iron" Skovera Jr., age 72, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls, Michigan. He was born June 5, 1931, in Crystal Falls, MI, son of the late Joseph Skovera and the late Annette Larson Skovera. He attended Alpha Schools, joined the Army, and was a Sergeant in the Korean War. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and watching the Green Bay Packers. He is survived by four sons, Gary Skovera- Hurkmans(Sue) of Dundee, MI, and children Travis, Christina and Dustin; Richard Skovera-Hurkmans (Fiancée Lyn) of Iron River, MI, and children Richard Jr., Tiffany, Caleb, Victoria and Jennifer; Terry Skovera of Marquette, MI; Larry Skovera of Iron River, MI; two daughters Marie Skovera Gasperini(Ed) of Iron River, MI and children Michael and Daniel, Rosie Skovera (Fiancé Mark) of Ironwood, MI; one sister Dorothy Stachowicz; numerous nieces and nephews and good friend Frogie. He was preceded in death by his wife Bethel Skovera, son Joseph Skovera, and nephew Jacob Stachowicz. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at 10:00a.m.at Trinity Lutheran Church, 105 Blossom Street, Stambaugh, Michigan. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, at 11:00a.m. at the Church. The Rev. Dr. Kim Beckmann and the Rev. Fred Kinsey will officiate.
