Iron Mountain:
Joseph J. Salmi, age 58, of Iron Mountain, died Friday, December 3, 2004 at his home.
He was born February 6, 1946, in Helsinki, Finland, the son of Erkki and Tuovi (Backman) Salmi. He moved to New York from Finland at age 6. A few years later, he moved to Chicago and graduated from Waukegan High School. Shortly after graduation, he went into the US Army and served in Vietnam. Before service and again when he returned from service, he worked for OMC Outboard Marine Corp. and was there for thirty-five years until he retired in 2000. He moved to Iron Mountain in 2002.
He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. He loved his family and sports.
Survivors include his wife Carol of twenty-three years, his father Erkki of Lakeworth, Fl, one son Steve (Karen) Salmi of Zion, Il, two daughters Sandy (Justin) Beach of Kenosha, WI, and Jill (Tim) Athans of Zion, IL, two brothers, Matt (Janice) Salmi of Southern, WI, and John Salmi of Kenosha, WI, eight grandchildren Ryan, Kristina, Timothy, Madelyn, Janelle, Julia, Jason and Colton, and two nephews.
He was preceded by his mother Tuovi Salmi and one grandchild Joshua Salmi.
Private family services will be held at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
