Joseph Kudwa, 89, lifelong resident of Iron County, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls.
He was born May 9, 1919, in Crystal Falls, son of the late John and Mary (Daybas) Kudwa. He resided in the Fortune Lake area of Crystal Falls where he had a farm. In addition to farming, Joe was a miner, machine shop worker, and wild life specialist with the Michigan DNR.
Joe married the former Joanna Skibo in 1947. They made their home and raised their sons, Ben and David, on a farm in Mastodon Township. Joanna preceded him in death in 1988. Following, Joe married the former Evelyn Menapace in 1994. The couple resided in Mastodon Township.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; son, Ben (Annette) Kudwa; grandchildren, Darrin Kudwa, Katie Kudwa, Erinn (Bill) Barnes; daughter-in-law, Mary Kudwa; three sisters, Jenny Skiba, Joann Harju, Rose Kozol; two brothers, John Kudwa, Louie (Elaine) Kudwa; many nieces and nephews.
Joseph was preceded in death by his son, David; two sisters, Eve Klaczak and Stella Pietrazeak.
Joe was a rugged, self-made man who loved the out of doors. He had a full life, with family, friends, and a variety of interests, including farming.
In his declining years, Joe was blessed by the love of his family and care provided by the caregivers at the Iron County Medical Care Facility.

Visitation will be Friday, October 24, 2008, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Dino Silvestrini will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls.
