Joseph Janov
CRYSTAL FALLS — Joseph "Red" Janov, 85, of 1014 Forest Ave., Crystal Falls, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
Red was born June 11, 1917, in Crystal Falls, son of the late John and Anna (Brozak) Janov and the late Joseph Mlinarcik. He attended school in Crystal Falls.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Red was a life member of the Tufts-Rondon Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2891, life member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Post of Iron River, a member of the American Legion Unit 87 of Crystal Falls and was a member of the Camp Christine Committee.
He married Jamie Collicelli on Sept. 4, 1948, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls, where they were both very active members. He also belonged to the Crystal View Golf Course.
Red was a bartender at the Crystal Inn for a few years at which time he decided to open Red's Bar. He operated Red's Bar for many years until it burned down in 1977.
He is survived by his wife, Jamie; three daughters, Louise (Bob) Ahola of Crystal Falls, Valerie (Rick) Young of Green Bay, Wis., and Mary (Stan) Humphrey of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Elaine Kempa of Crystal Falls and Mary Voden of Milwaukee, and six grandchildren, Brian, Mark, Cori, Josh, Jamie and Tyler.
Red was preceded in death by a brother, John Mlinarcik, and three sisters, Celia Watson, Margaret Dolan and Ann Biswabic.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Crystal Falls. The Eastside Veterans Council conducted a pass and revue at 10:45 a.m. today at the church.
The Mass of Christian Burial were at 11 a.m. today at the church. Fr. Raymond Zeugner officiated.
Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls.
