Joseph L. Gehling, 73, of Niagara, passed away Monday, December 29, 2014, at the Oscar G. Johnson Veteran's Hospital, Iron Mountain, Mich. He was born May 4, 1941, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Lindle and Gladys (Burdick) Gehling. Joe grew up in Pembine and graduated from Pembine High School, Class of 1959. He served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1964. Joe worked for Osmose Wood Preserving Company, inspecting power poles; he also worked at Norway Mountain as a ski lift operator. He enjoyed gold panning in Colorado and South Carolina and flying his own private plane. Joe is survived by four brothers, Richard (Darlene) Gehling, Pembine, Wis., Daniel Gehling, Niagara, William (Lucille) Gehling, Mont. and Lynn (Jill) Gehling, Ariz.; one sister, Carol Ernst, Niagara and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Gehling. Services for Joe will be held at a later date.
