Yakutat, Alaska:
Joseph A Cavicchioni 78, formerly a resident of Lansing for 55 years, died May 25, 2003, at the home of his daughter, Jane, in Yakutat, Alaska, where he resided the past three years.
Joseph was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan, on August 22, 1924, son of the late Orsio an Angeline (Carollo) Cavicchioni.
In 1942, he was a member of the Iron Mountain High School Graduating class. Shortly afterwards, he enlisted into the US Army during World War II, being discharged in November of 194v6. After the service, he attended Michigan State University pursuing a degree in Horticulture. This enabled him to own and operate greenhouses and four floral shops, under the name of Barnes Avenue Floral, from 1950 – 2000 in Lansing, Michigan.
On September 7, 1948, Joseph married his wife Nancy (Rank) who preceded him in death, after 49 years of marriage, on November 9, 1997.
Joseph is survived by three daughters Suzanne of Portland, Oregon, Gayla (Ted) Valle, and Jane of Yakutat, Alaska, two grandsons Joseph and Max Valle, two sisters Jeanna (Joseph) Ferraro of Lansing and Elena "Helen" Muller of Iron Mountain, a nephew Joseph Ferraro of West Palm Beach and a niece Dr. Melissa Muller of Tucson, Arizona.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 24, 2003, from 9:30 – 10:00a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, 10:00a.m.with Msgr. James Kaczmarek officiating. Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
