Channing- Johnny "John" Vern Williams Sr., 79, of Channing, Mich., passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Optalis Health and Rehab, Kingsford, Mich.

John was born on September 21, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Vern and Myrtle (Looper) Williams.

In 1962, he met his soul mate, Joan Condon, when they were set up on a blind date. They later married in 1965 in Tinley Park, Ill. John worked as a skilled tradesman for the Electro-Motive in La Grange, Ill., until his retirement in 1998.

John was a simple man who liked to fish for Walleye, lose himself in a good book, and play solitaire, horseshoes, and bean bag toss. He loved to watch his hometown teams, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan Williams; sons, John (Cynthia) Williams Jr., Jeff (Lois) Williams, and Joseph (Lyn) Williams; sister, April (Ralph) Coyle; grandchildren, Brianna Williams, Brandon Williams, Cassidy Williams, Madison Williams, Amber Williams, Shelby Williams, and Abby Williams, and by three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one brother, Bernard Williams, and one sister, Jarlath Mullen.
