John "Zeke" Zeleznik, 74, of Amasa, Mich., passed away Monday, June 21, 2010, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls.
He was born November 6, 1935, in Amasa, son of the late John and Irena (Shroba) Zeleznik. On August 2, 1969, John married the former Jane Challancin, in Crystal Falls.
John graduated from Amasa High School, Class of 1954, and served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1959. He went on to work for Georgia Pacific-Chip Plant until his retirement in 1992. John was a life member of the VFW Tufts-Rondon Post No. 2891, Crystal Falls, and a member of the Amasa Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years. He also was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Amasa, and later Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Zeleznik; one daughter, Julie (Fred) Watts, Amasa; one granddaughter, Emily Jane Watts; one brother, Charles (Lynne) Zeleznik, Gwinn, Mich.; one sister, Annie Wyffels, Crystal Falls, Mich.; other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Parnarauskis, Margaret Groeneveld; one step-brother, Joe Surinak; one half-sister, Clema Hinz; and one step-sister, Mary Alexa.
Visitation will be Friday, June 25, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 10:00 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Jeffrey Kurtz will officiate. Burial will be in Hematite Twsp. Cemetery, Amasa. Graveside military rite will be accorded by the East Side Veterans Council.
