Crystal Falls:
John Rowell Twa, age 88, of Crystal Falls, Mich., died Sunday, April 16, 2006, at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans, Marquette, Mich., where he had been a patient since March 2001.
He was born July 3, 1917, in Crystal Falls, Mich., son of the late William Stuart and Stella (Langland) Twa. He married Mae Reiman. She preceded him in death on May 28, 1984.
John attended Crystal Falls schools and was a lifelong area resident. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in Europe in WWII. John worked in the woods, and was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp. He also worked as a mechanic and crane operator, and finally for five years at Lakeshore in Negaunee, Mich., until his retirement in 1982.
Mr. Twa was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Crystal Falls, the V.F.W. Post 2891, Crystal Falls, and a retired member of Operating Engineers Local 324.
He loved his camp on the Paint River, wintering in Florida, camping with friends, tinkering in his garage, and feeding the birds.
Surviving are his three children, son, William (Susan) Twa of Marquette, Mich., daughter, Molly (Greg) Reffruschinni of Xenia, Ohio, and son, Joseph (Karen) Twa of Rapid River, Mich.; one sister, Merle, of Evansville, Ind.; four grandchildren Tony Redman of Austin, Texas, John Twa of Erie, Colo., Dana Rudden of Marquette, Mich., and Patrick Redman of Chicago, Ill; four great grandchildren, Jaren, Lindsey, and Garrett Rudden of Marquette, Mich., and Calvin Redman of Austin, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife Mae Twa, John was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Twa; his sisters Maynette Johndrow, Ora Anderson, and Hallie Corbett; and daughter-in-law MaryAnn Twa.
Visitation will be Friday, April 21, 2006, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. The VFW Post 2891 of Crystal Falls, will have a Pass and Review at 10:45 a.m. Funeral services will be Friday, 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Stephen Rhoades will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
