Iron Mountain: John A. Torreano age 58, of Iron Mountain died Friday December 19, 2003 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
John was born on November 14, 1945 in Ramsey, Michigan son of the late August and Doris (Eade) Torreano.
John grew up in Duluth, Minnesota and graduated from Duluth East High School in 1963. He went on to attend Michigan Technological University where he received Bachelors of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering and Engineering Administration in 1968. John married Barbara Goodman on September 16, 1967 in Houghton, Michigan. Following graduation, they moved to Rochester, Minnesota where John worked for I.B.M. for three years. John then went on to Marquette University in Milwaukee and received his Juris Doctor in 1974. He practiced law in Milwaukee for two years before moving to Iron Mountain in 1976. For 25 years John practiced law in the firm of McNeil & Torreano. Since January 1, 2001, John has served as the Probate Court Judge for Dickinson County.
John's life was dedicated to his family and community. He was a devoted husband and loving father who took great pleasure from the accomplishments of his children. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
John was an active member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as parish council President and lay reader for over 20 years. John is the current Serra Club President and had been active in Dickinson Area Catholic School's Booster Club, youth hockey and soccer, North Elementary School Destination Imagination Team, Iron Mountain/Kingsford Kiwanis Club, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, and Salvation Army.
John is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Barbara; seven sons, David of Jacksonville, FL; Jim of Las Vegas, NV; Mickey (Carolina) of Dushanbe, Tajikistan; Tony of Valdosta, GA; and Dan, Thomas and Nathan of Iron Mountain, MI; and a sister Carole (Charlie) Torreano Jirousek, niece Terri Jirousek and nephew Jesse Jirousek of Safety Harbor, FL; and brother in law Charles (Christine) Goodman of
Houghton, MI.
Visitation will be Monday from 4-8PM at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Prayers will be recited Monday 7:30Pm at the funeral Home. Prayers will be held Tuesday 9:30AM at the Jacobs Funeral Home with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10AM at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Dan Zaloga will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in John's memory.
