CMS John P. Sullivan, USAF (Retired), 78, of Quinnesec, Mich., passed away peacefully Thursday, September 18, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain.
He was born June 29, 1930, in Ontario, Wis., son of the late Howard and Alberta (Lombard) Sullivan. John attended school in Ontario. John married the former Elaine Jacobson on February 16, 1952, in the Chapel at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.
John enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1947. He served his country in Korea, France, Germany, and the Middle East. John served in the USAF for 24 years and retired from Grissom Air Force Base, Indiana, as base Sergeant Major. John was especially proud to have graduated from Strategic Air Command non-commissioned officer academy.
After retiring from the USAF, he moved his family to Quinnesec and worked as a purchasing agent at Wittock Supply Company for 20 years. John always loved to golf, and was a member of Oak Crest Golf Course for many years. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved watching the Chicago Cubs and Packers. For many years, John umpired at area baseball games, which he loved to do.
John leaves the loves of his life, his wife of 56 years, Elaine; three daughters, Melanie (Doug) Beauchamp, Escanaba, Mich., Carrie (Don) Ring, Iron Mountain, Patty (Todd) Brasure, Niagara, Wis.; five grandchildren, Shannon (Allen) Perkins, Jason (Sara) Freeman, Sandy Beauchamp, Nicole Ring, Michael Ring; one great-grandchild, Jax (Lil Bubba); two sisters, Bernadine Hutchens, Sharon Sharp; many nieces and nephews, who were all very special to him.
He was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his second great-grandchild in March. John was very proud of all of his grandchildren and loved them dearly. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. John was always there for everyone who needed him. The most important thing in John's life was his entire family. He will be missed every single day by all of his family.
