Florence:
John F. Rochon, age 84, of Florence, Wis., passed away Friday, November 11, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iron Mountain, Mich.
John was born September 11, 1921, in Alpha, Mich., the son of the late Claude and Katherine (Schmid) Rochon. On January 3, 1948, he married Elaine Christesen in Florence. She survives.
He joined the U S Navy from June 1940 -1946. He served during World War II and was wounded at Sugar Loaf Mountain in Okinawa. Upon returning to the Florence area, he worked for the Bristol Mine in Crystal Falls. John served as Postmaster in Florence from 1962 until he retired in 1982. He served as clerk and treasurer for the Town of Florence for many years. He enjoyed hunting, playing cribbage and attending most all high school sporting events.
Survivors include his wife Elaine, two sons; Thomas (Trudy) Rochon of Florence, Wis., and David (Francie) Rochon of Iron Mountain, Mich., three daughters; Jacquelyn (Mike) Glime of Florence, Wis., Jill (Don) Newton of Boise, Idaho, and Renee (Brian) Keehan of Green Bay, Wis., two brothers, Claude (June) Rochon of Arkansas, James (Marlene) Rochon of Wausau, Wis., fifteen grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded by two brothers; Fritz Rochon and Bob Rochon, and one sister Mercedes Zaupa.
