John "Jack" Battista Pozza, age 74, of Fairfax Station, Virginia, formerly of Iron Mountain passed away Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Dickinson County Hospital in Iron Mountain, MI. Jack was born on April 11, 1933 in Iron Mountain son of the late Henry and Edna (Warner) Pozza. Jack married Rita Smithson, formerly of Alpha, on August 2, 1958, in Iron Mountain. Jack grew up in Iron Mountain and graduated in 1951 from Iron Mountain High School. He went on to graduate from the University of Michigan in 1955 with a degree in Political Science. In 1973 he earned his Masters Degree from the New York Institute of Technology. Jack joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1956 and retired in 1985 after serving 29 years and reaching the rank of Colonel. Upon his retirement, from the Marines, he took a position in Virginia with the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association as a Director where he worked until 1993. Jack and Rita have been living in Virginia since 1974. Jack is survived by his wife Rita, one son John (Paula) Pozza, Temecula, CA; two daughters, Jayelene (Mark) Betonti, Haymarket, Virginia; and Joelle Pozza, Springfield, Virginia. Two brothers, Henry (Jeanette) Pozza; Jerry Pozza, one sister, Marilyn Balzarini, all of Iron Mountain; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Dominique, Hayden and Julian, numerous nieces and nephews. Private family visitation and funeral services will be held at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Celebrant Blaine Donaldson will officiate.
