Obituary

John P. LePine, 87, of Florence, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013, following a brief illness at Manor Care-East Rehab Facility in Green Bay. He was born February 2, 1926, in Florence, son of the late Peter and Florence "Flossie" (Malloy) LePine. John married Josephine Holland on August 27, 1958, in Escanaba, Mich. She preceded him in death on October 27, 1996. John served his country in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954, serving in the Korean War. He worked for an electrical contractor out of Escanaba for 15 years, before moving to Florence and working at Florence Water & Light until retiring in 1973. After retiring, he worked for the US Forest Service. He enjoyed gardening in his flowerbeds, cutting lawns, and loved going to Barb's Café for coffee every morning. John had a delightful sense of humor, liked to make people laugh, and had many stories to tell. John was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence, the Florence VFW Post No. 3635, American Legion Post No. 211 of Florence, Florence Sportsman's Club, and lifetime member of DAV of Escanaba, Mich. He is survived by one sister, Mary Ellen Gremore, Milwaukee; two brothers, Francis (Lois) LePine, Big Bend, Howard (Marcy) LePine, Oak Creek; many nieces and nephews spanning three generations. The visitation will be Saturday, February 9, 2013, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30, Saturday at the church. Rev. Matt Settle will officiate. The Florence VFW Post No. 3635 and American Legion Post No. 211 will accord military honors 11:15 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Commonwealth.
