John "Jack" R. Langren, 76, of Lake Tomahawk, Wis., passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Ministry Health Care Dr. Kate Hospice. He was born August 22, 1935, in Marenesco, Mich., son of the late Herbert and Margaret (Nye) Langren. Jack moved to Lake Tomahawk at a young age and was raised by his aunt and uncle, Edward and Lillian Langren of Lake Tomahawk. Jack attended the one room school house in Lake Tomahawk where his aunt was a teacher and the Arbor Vitae Woodruff (AVW) School. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Marine Corps, serving his country from 1952 to 1956 as a tank commander during the Korean War and had attained the rank of Sergeant. After being honorably discharged, Jack came home to help his uncle and aunt before going to work for the Wisconsin Conservation Forest Protection Department in 1957. Jack met and married Connie Adamski of Lake Tomahawk on September 6, 1958. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary in September 2008. After leaving the Conservation Department, Jack worked as a truck driver for Cleary's Milk Company of Rhinelander, from 1966 until 1979. Because of health concerns Jack gave up driving truck and became a custodian for the Town of Lake Tomahawk Community Building for nine years. Jack served on the Wilderness Rest Cemetery Board and Rainbow Credit Union Board. He was a Charter Member of the Colin F. Schultz American Legion Post No. 318. Jack enjoyed the outdoors, feeding humming birds, family pets, including dogs and at one time a domesticated wild rabbit, watching the Green Bay Packers, mowing his lawn and taking care of his home. Most of all Jack enjoyed time spent with family and friends for holidays and special events at the family home serving meals and refreshments for all in the house and garage. Jack was beloved by his family and everyone who knew him and will be sadly missed.
