John J. Hoholek, 92, of Crystal Falls, Buck Lake district, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls.
He was born April 15, 1915, in Alpha, son of the late Nicholas and Agatha (Jacobinski) Hoholek.
John attended schools in Buck Lake and Alpha until his help was needed to run the family farm. John worked at the Ford glider factory in Iron Mountain and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and served stateside at the Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois and in Hastings Naval Ammunition Depot, Nebraska. Prior to his military service he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) logging camps and the WPA program. In Chicago John worked at the Railway Express Agency (REA) and in Warren, Michigan at the Dodge truck plant. In this area he worked as a custodian at Fobs restaurant, worked for the county and township and also at Scarities Service Station. John enjoyed delivering pasties from the St. Edward Catholic Church pasty day sale.
Survivors include five brothers, Joseph Hoholek, Green Bay, Wis., Michael Hoholek, New York, Frank Hoholek, Crystal Falls, Stanley Hoholek, Iron Mountain, Louis Hoholek, Buck Lake district; three sisters, Julia Zorzin, Caspian, Stephanie Ventimiglio, Warren, and Helen Parker, Bushnell, Fla.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Walter, Andrew and Tony Hoholek; and two sisters, Mary Hill and Annie Long.
Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2007, at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home, Crystal Falls. The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2007, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Crystal Falls. Rev. Dino Silvestrini will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls, with military rites accorded by the East Side Veterans Council.
